Time Business has posted an article about this. The 5 ways shopping is actually good for you was detailed by Kit Yarrow.
TNS Global on behalf of Ebates.com has conducted a survey, and they found that more than half of Americans admit to engaging in “retail therapy”. The act of shopping and spending actually improves one’s mood.
Here are the 5 ways:
Easing Transitions. According to Kit Yarrow, the two of the most shop-intensive times of our lives are also two of life’s greatest transitions, and those were getting married and having a baby. Shopping can be a rich source of mental preparation. As people shop, they’re naturally visualizing how they’ll use the products being considered, and in doing so they’re also visualizing their new life.
Dressing for Success. In a study published by The Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, concluded that dressing appropriately not only increases our confidence, but may even help us perform better.
The Pleasure Boost of Creativity and Aesthetics. When consumers are asked to describe what they love about the product or a piece of a luxury watch or bag. The responses are often similar to how someone might describe a piece of beautiful, inspiring art.
Relaxation and Escape. A shopping trip or an online shopping is relatively mindless, relaxing activity. When you had a long day at work, taking a break from it by browsing to your favorite shopping website (even without making a purchase) will divert your attention from arduous tasks at the office. You will find yourself immerse with excitement even for a short time.
Social Connection. Shopping is one of the many ways to connect socially. We tend to go to places or stores where most shoppers go buy clothes, dine, vacation.
My take on this topic, retail therapy has its own advantages. Let's just stay on the positive fine line of shopping. As long as you know how to manage your finances well, that way you're dealing less life's stress.
Yesterday, as I was checking out some videos of models (talented models turned actress/celebrity ... the like of Cara Delevingne) I stumbled upon Tavi Gevinson short video featured from Alexa Chung's show.
This girl is super amazing. At a young age she started blogging - showing her creativity and love for fashion, best reading materials, avant garde list of artists - musician, icons... the list might still go on you know. She is an inspiration to many. I myself was inspired by her personality, by who she is.
